Hartwell’s historic Northview Cemetery is overseen by the Northview Cemetery Association, Inc. (NCA) which is a tax exempt non-profit organization which was formed in 1991 to maintain the Cemetery. Since that time, contributions have funded landscaping, tree removal, and marker restoration on graves for those with no living relatives. The NCA also erected a wrought iron fence along the front of the Cemetery and researched and installed a directory of graves and location guide to assist visitors. Given the lack of written records of lot ownership, there are no known or identifiable burial plots remaining. As a result, and given the increasing number of cremations, NCA in 2018 undertook the major project of building a Columbarium Garden with the design and engineering help of the UGA Archway Project and the generous donations of individuals and many NCA supporters. Each of the three columbaria contain 72 individual niches, and are now available for purchase.
